Acupressure is a type of bodywork that involves targeting specific points on the body with the fingers, knuckles, and palms (and sometimes the elbows and feet) to relieve pain, reduce stress, unblock energy, and promote general good health. Developed in China 5,000 years ago, acupressure is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Acupressure is not to be confused with Acupuncture. Acupressure involves the use of focused pressure on the body, and Acupuncture involves the use of inserted needles at specific Acupuncture points along the body.
Acupressure can help with the following:
- Relieve stress and tension
- Relax mind and body
- Increase blood circulation
- Aid in the removal of toxic wastes
- Provide relief from head, neck and shoulder aches
- Increase energy levels
- Increase overall feeling of well-being
The client lies fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner focuses pressure on points situated on various parts of the client's body. The session is non-invasive and gentle. An average session lasts for about one hour. However, most clients normally require a number of sessions to complete a treatment.
